Hotels & Travel Information for Boston

Welcome to RoomRate.com, your one-stop source for direct hotel booking rates in Boston. Offering Discount Hotel rates within Boston's downtown area.

Boston was founded in 1630 by the Massachusetts Bay Puritans, led by John Winthrop, who were seeking religious freedom. The settlement was named after their hometown in England. The city quickly became a center for commerce and was one of the busiest ports in the British Empire. Its very economic success led to conflict with the British Parliament, which saw the colony as a source of new tax revenues, levying new taxes on legal and commercial documents with the Stamp Act of 1763. The independent Bostonians resisted these and other taxes, so British troops were sent in 1768 to enforce the English law. In 1773 the locals dressed up as Indians and boarded a cargo ship to dump tea, upon which the British government had imposed yet another tax. The incident became known as the Boston Tea Party. By 1775 Boston was ripe for independence from Britain, and the stage was set for rebellion, led by Samuel Adams, Paul Revere and other early American patriots. Today’s tourist can review much of this history by following Boston’s Freedom Trail, which begins at Boston Common and ends at Bunker Hill Monument in Charleston. Just follow the red brick or granite stones imbedded in the sidewalk.

The Boston of today is more than colonial era landmarks. The largest industry stems from the 60 colleges and universities in Greater Boston, which have a combined total of 250,000 students.

Walking throughout the city will bring the visitor through elegant Back Bay’s brownstone mansioned neighborhoods, the boutique shops of Newbury Street, the row houses of Beacon Hill. The historical Faneuil Hall Marketplace and restaurants which dates back originally to 1742, contains more than 125 restaurants, boutiques, and produce stands.
